Art of the Table 2012 Photos

We are excited to share our table photos for Art of the Table 2012. This year’s event was great as always. As a committee member we were excited to see 29 table designs, the most we have ever had. All of the designers went over the top a pulled off amazing designs. The great thing about this event is that it caters to everyone. Whether you are planning a romantic, contemporary or beach wedding, you could see a design in your style. Even if you were not planning a wedding, we had a design for you too. Please enjoy our two tables, we had a blast creating them!

Overlay Linens – Wildflower Linens
Base Linen – Chair Cover & Linens

This was our romantic wedding table. We fell in LOVE with these linens from Wildflower and had to design a table around them. The idea for the centerpiece was a garden that has gone a bit wild and is overgrown. The best part about Lilly Lane’s design (besides the roses of course!) was that as you moved around the table you were greeted with a different look. It made the table interesting and fun to look around, you never knew what was around the corner.

Our second table we went a little wild and did a social table. This is a little girl’s birthday party themed as Alice and Wonderland’s Mad Hatter Tea Party. This is a fun theme to work with because anything goes. The Mad Hatter Tea Party was a crazy UnBirthday Party with tons of teapots and cups. We use this idea and expanded it to include giant teacups for our topsy-turvy cake and flower display. We picked the top linen because of its fun color changing feature. The bubbles are one long linen that changes colors depending on what is below it. How fun! Can you imagine being a little girl and having your very own grown up tea party? I cannot wait until I can use these for a real party.

Hope you enjoyed our photos, we enjoyed designing them.  What is your favorite party of our table designs?

Love Inspirations: Fabric Flower Ideas

This past weekend I attending a regional meeting for the Association of Bridal Consultants and was honored to design a table for lunch. I was given the colors fuchsia, apple green, and black and white stripes. The only other stipulation was to try to not use fresh flowers (we were trying to keep the cost down). I decided to create a design using fabric. I created fabric ruffles orbs and fabric flowers. I am very pleased with how they turned out.

We have decided that this is a great accent to any wedding. We will soon be offering fabric flowers you can purchase to accent your wedding or event. We will also be creating keepsake bouquets. This will be a great way to have a wedding memory keep forever. Email us at hello {at} rufflesroses.com to be emailed when these items are available.

What do you think of the fabric flowers? How would you use them?

Yes, I’m Engaged! Now What?

It finally happened, he asked and you said yes. You have been waiting for this for a while and cannot believe it has happened. You are now going to have your dream wedding, the problem is that you don’t know what that is. You were not one of those girls who started planning your wedding at age 7. You always wanted a wedding but you don’t know where to start. I have been there (surprisingly, I was just like you once) and I am here to help. Here are my five starting points to planning your wedding.

1. Sit down with your families, and decide the basics – Here are the questions you need answered: who is doing what, what is the budget, and when are you getting married?

It is important at the start to let your family know how much help you want. They can help a lot or a little you decide, but make sure to let them know. You also need to know how much  you are working with. Everyone has a budget, everyone. Figure out what yours is before you start following in love with people and places. Finally, figure out a date. You may not come up with the exact date but figured out dates that will work for everyone.

2. Find your locations – Many times your date is set by what date your venues are open. You will find the perfect place and know you are getting married there. If it is not open on your target date, you can change the date now before anything else is decided. Since you may change your date for your locations, you do not want to book your professionals first.

3. Figure out when you need to get your dress – Now that you know your date, you need to figure out your dress shopping schedule. A wedding dress takes 4-6 months to order, plus you will most likely need time to get it altered. I tell my brides if at all possible try to order your dress seven months before your wedding. Better safe then worried. I never what a bride worried her dress will not make it in time. If you are already passed seven months, then you need to go shopping very soon.

4. Get Inspired – The best way to figure out what you want is to look at photos. This is the really fun part of wedding planning. Grab a magazine or grab your computer and get started. As we all know, you can Google anything and that includes all things weddings. Try to narrow your search to a color, season, theme, etc. This will help with not going into overload. Remember, this is suppose to be fun. If you do not know where to start, go to the main wedding sites:

The Knot

Martha Stewart Weddings

Get Married

These sites have tons of ideas in any theme and color scheme out there. They will allow you to see many different types of weddings quickly so you can start to learn what your wedding will look/feel like.

5. If you feel overwhelmed, look into a wedding planner – A wedding planner is no longer a luxury for the wealth. You might be surprised to know that a wedding planner is more accessible than before and could be your greatest asset. A planner can help you as much or as little as you want. We help you relax and enjoy planning your wedding. Planning a wedding can be a full-time job, and not something you have done before. Why not have someone there to be on your side and there helping you every step of the way. You deserve to have fun planning your wedding!

This should help get you started on your wedding journey. Good luck!

Did this help you? Would you add another tip, if so, what?

Love Stories: Robbie & Stephanie

We are so excited that we get to be sharing some beautiful photos from our August 13th wedding at the Eiteljorg. I met this couple at the end of December last year and worked with them all year to create their perfect day. I enjoyed meeting and working with the whole family and in fact, miss not talking to them on a regular basis. The rain held off that day for the outside ceremony, our only hitch was the practicing bands behind the ceremony site. I think Stephanie’s dad said it best in his welcome speech when he said, “it is hard to get 30 rival bands to play together, but they did for Stephanie’s wedding.” It may not have been ideal but it will be a memory. Please enjoy the photos!

Love Inspirations: “Falling” in Love

Personalized Fall Leaves
Falling In Love Save the Date Cards

Chocolate Fall Leaf Wedding Favors

As the weather has started to change, leaves are going to start to turn into those beautiful autumn colors we all love.  The deep reds, rustic oranges, and golden yellows really warm the heart during the fall season.  However, those are not the only things that can bring a glow to your face or get you more excited for your perfect fall wedding!  “Falling in love” is the perfect theme for a great fall season.  Here are some ideas for a great fall theme!  Save the date cards with leaves falling and a picture of the two of you inside the leaf.  The card could say, “Save the date! We’ve fallen in love!”  This is a cute and fun idea to send to your guests.  Next, you could decorate your table with the leaf petals shown above.  You can put your names on them or they can be used as name cards for your guests!  Whatever you choose, these can also be fun take aways from the wedding.  For a party favor, try chocolate fall leaves wrapped in those warm fall colors to thank your guests for coming to celebrate you and your fiance “Fall” in love!

Do you have a fall wedding?  What are some ideas you are planning for your reception and wedding day?  We would love to hear what you are “falling” in love with this fall!

Love Stories: Gary and Tammy

A couple of weekends ago I receive a call from a father asking me if I was available for the August 27th weekend, the call was on August 20th one week away. I was available and I was able to talk to the bride on Sunday night. The problem was their reception was in a gym (not the bride’s first choice, but only one that worked) and the bride did not want it to look like a gym, can you blame her? On Sunday I got her linen order, so I could order linens on Monday. I then did not meet the bride at the site until Tuesday morning. We then came up with a plan on how she wanted the room decorated. Three days later we showed up and made it happen.

What we started with

What we ended up with

It is not always easy to design an entire reception room in three days, but we did and the bride and groom were extremely happy (mom and dad too). Here are some more shots from the reception.

Half the Room – Love the Black Table Cloths with Ivory Napkins

Table Shot – Accents of Purple and Green

Fun Idea – The centerpiece at every table was a cake, uuummmm!

Head Table – Adding Drama

The Bride Loved My Ruffle Table – So I gave it to Her

Drama on the Dance Floor – This Helped Transform this Room

We were excited to help this couple realize their wedding dream. Remember, even when you think you have run out of time, there is still a chance you can have what you want. It was hard work, but we are very excited we were able to get this done in less than a week.

What do you think, did we transform the gym?

Love Connections: Tanya with Heavenly Sweets

Tanya Marshall: Owner of Heavenly Sweets

Heavenly Sweets: Voted Best Cake by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine

Wedding Cake by Tanya Marshall

We had a chance to sit down with Tanya Marshall from Heavenly Sweets.  Heavenly Sweets was voted best cake by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine and their buttercream icing is “heavenly”.  Heavenly Sweets not only bakes wonderful cakes, they also cater as well.  With two locations located in Noblesville, Indiana, be sure to visit them for your next catered event or wedding cake!  After talking with Tanya, we asked her a few questions pertaining to love.  Here is what she said!

1)    What do you love about weddings?
-“I love the response people have once they have enjoyed and seen the cake.  I like the after response  more then the initial, because i like to see the excitement from the families after they have seen and tasted the cake.”

2)  What do you love about your business?
-“We have started with a mission and we stayed true to our mission.  We wanted to have a high quality product and we have continued to produce products that we aimed for when we first started.”

3)  What is your love craving?
-“I still love my own buttercream icing.  I enjoy the sour cream buttercream icing as well.”  It’s great that after all these years, her product is something she not only enjoys making, but enjoys eating as well!

4)  What do you love about living in Indiana?
-“I love the defined four seasons: fall, winter, spring, summer.  Fall is my favorite season, but I look forward to spring time.  I love Indiana because most of my family lives here; not all my children live here, but the four seasons and my strong family ties are what I enjoy most about Indiana.”

5)  Love Advice
-“Be honest with each other before you get married. Take off the rose colored glasses and make sure you really like each other with honest eyes.  It is important to be honest with each other and to not get in a hurry.  Don’t ignore the courtship process because it is a special time.  It can get swept under the rug during wedding planning.”

Thanks Tanya!  Be sure to check out Heavenly Sweets!  Have you tried their cake or had an event catered by them before?
